The city adopts by reference the current edition of the Model Energy Code, prepared and maintained by the Council of American Building Codes Officials, as the code is adopted and amended by the Building Codes Bureau of the Department of Labor and Industry of the state of Montana, as and for the rules, regulations, requirements and conditions governing design of building envelopes for adequate thermal resistance and low air leakage and the design and selection of mechanical, electrical, service water heating and illumination systems and equipment which will enable effective use of energy in new building construction and additions to existing buildings within the limits of the city.
