10.75.040 Operation and route designation.

A. No person shall operate a snowmobile upon a controlled access highway or facility.
B. No person shall operate a snowmobile in the city on any private or public property, including all parks, playgrounds and designated streets, other than the defined areas in this chapter, without the expressed permission the owner of such property.
C. No person shall operate a snowmobile on any sidewalks, boulevards, driveways or parking lots except for the purpose of directly removing or returning a snowmobile to its place of storage.
D. It is forbidden to operate a snowmobile on any streets or avenues of the city. Snowmobiles may be taken to and from the place where the same is stored by proceeding on the shortest route from such place to the nearest alley and thence following the alley to the edge of the city. Lateral movements from one alley to another may be made when doing so is necessary to reach an alley leading to the city limits.
E. A snowmobile may make a direct crossing of a street on highway, where such crossings are necessary to get to another authorized area of operation. All crossings by snowmobiles shall be made at an angle of approximately ninety degrees to the direction of the street, and at a place where no obstruction prevents a quick and safe crossing. The snowmobile shall make a complete stop before entering upon any part of the highway, street or road, and the operator shall yield the right-of-way to oncoming traffic.
F. The owner or operator of a snowmobile, which is involved in an accident, collision or upset upon a public street or highway where personal injury occurs to any person on when property damage exceeds one hundred dollars, shall report the accident on occurrence to a state or local enforcement agency responsible for collecting reports of accidents involving motor vehicles.
G. No snowmobile shall be operated upon a public street when permitted to do so by this chapter, unless equipped with at least one head lamp and one tail lamp, which shall be lighted at all times during such operation, and unless it is equipped with a suitable braking device which may be operated by either hand or foot.
H. Curfew. No snowmobiling shall be done between the hours of ten p.m. and seven a.m. except in going to and returning from a ride.
I. All snowmobile operations within the city shall be as fan to the right side of the alley as possible, and shall yield the night-of-way to all pedestrians and vehicular traffic, and shall ride in single file if there is more than one snowmobile. (Ord. 393 § 4, 1980)
